Protect the wear layer and the joints
Flooring is exposed to grit, repeated foot traffic and moisture at the same time. That combination means a cleaning method can create scratches while trying to remove a mark, or push liquid into a seam while trying to dissolve residue. Identify laminate, resilient vinyl/LVP, tile or wood before choosing a cleaner or tool.
A transferable black scuff is not the same as a cut through a wear layer. Adhesive on top of a plank is not the same as swelling underneath it. Flooring problems combine chemistry with mechanical wear. A black transfer mark may sit on top of a wear layer, while a gouge cuts through it. Adhesive or paint can often be reduced safely, but the solvent or scraper used to remove it may create more damage than the original residue. Laminate and floating floors also add moisture-sensitive joints and cores.
Use this hub to separate transferable residue, surface scratches, wear-layer damage and structural moisture problems. Do not flood plank edges, and do not assume a method that works on ceramic tile belongs on resilient or laminate flooring.
