Follow the label and safety data supplied with cleaning products, adhesives, solvents, polishes, repair compounds and tools. Use ventilation and protective equipment where appropriate. Never mix household chemicals unless the manufacturers explicitly state that the combination is safe.
When professional help is appropriate
Professional assessment may be the safer option for valuable or historic finishes, extensive water damage, structural problems, electrical hazards, hazardous materials, deep stone damage, major coating failure or any situation where the material cannot be identified confidently.
